Respecting the Game's Heritage

Mahjong is a centuries‑old game with deep cultural roots in China, and we approach it with respect—not ownership. It carries history, symbolism, and meaning far beyond a pastime, and we take that responsibility seriously.

This game has the power to inspire personal transformation. It sparks creativity, fosters deep connection, and creates moments of joy—even during life’s darker times. Having experienced its impact ourselves, we feel both grateful and responsible for introducing new players to the game through Heron House. We honor those who came before us, especially the teachers who passed down this tradition.

For us, appreciation means learning, teaching, and giving credit where it’s due—celebrating mahjong’s origins, sharing its history, and listening to voices from both its cultural roots and the diverse community we serve. We are committed to reflecting this understanding in our curriculum, product assortment, and digital content, and we humbly hope to do it justice.

Respecting mahjong’s heritage is an ongoing practice—one that evolves as we learn, build partnerships, and welcome feedback. Our hope is that Heron House will be a place where people of all backgrounds, ages, and identities come together with curiosity, humility, and joy to experience the game in many forms.

We welcome dialogue. It helps us grow, and we believe accountability is essential to being thoughtful stewards of a tradition we deeply respect and are honored to share.
